Forest View Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI seeks a Psychiatric Triage/Intake Registered Nurse to interview medical histories, current meds and vitals, ensuring a smooth transition to the unit. Work is 12-hour night shifts, part of the Admissions/Referral Center team.

Prior psychiatric nursing/assessment experience and Michigan license with CPR/BLS are required. The role emphasizes patient trust, coordination with physicians and families, and adherence to hospital policies and state regulations.

Qualifications

• Michigan nursing license (or eligible to obtain/renew)
• Psychiatric nursing or assessment experience required
• Current CPR or BLS certification required

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates a high level of mental and emotional tolerance sensitivity, diplomacy, sound judgment, and a professional attitude when relating with patients, families and co-workers throughout the admissions process.
• Provides support and concern for the patient to ease anxiety during the intake and admissions process.
• Responsible for documentation of patients’ medical history, and findings as part of the assessment and admissions process, continually assesses and reassesses the patient’s medical and psychiatric status and changing needs.
• Accompanies the patient to the unit and assists with the transition to the unit.
• Performs duties with frequent interruptions, in close quarters and under time constraints in a professional manner.
• Maintains a current knowledge of the legal aspects of nursing and of the policies, procedures and regulations of the hospital.
• Handle incoming crisis calls, make referrals and complete assessments
• Performs other duties as assigned.
