Job summary

Capable in San Francisco is seeking an experienced peptide chemist to lead the overnight synthesis operations on a dedicated night-shift schedule. You will manage synthesis, purification, characterization, and timely handoffs to the day team.

You will apply sound technical judgment to troubleshoot failed reactions and ensure high-quality samples for biological testing, working across HPLC, LC-MS, and NMR workflows.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of hands-on industry experience in peptide, medicinal, organic, or closely related chemistry.
• Ability to work designated night-shift reliably and make technical decisions independently.

Responsibilities

• Lead overnight peptide synthesis from planning through reaction setup, purification, and sample prep.
• Run microwave-assisted solid-phase peptide synthesis, including loading, coupling, deprotection, and QC.
• Resolve overnight issues involving reactions, purity, solubility, and instrument downtime.
• Purify and characterize compounds using HPLC, LC-MS, and NMR.
• Own identity, purity, yield, and records for in vitro/in vivo testing.
• Contribute chemistry insights on feasibility, SAR, and solubility for next compounds.
• Provide disciplined morning handoffs covering results and follow-ups.
