Job summary

Crothall Healthcare is hiring Patient Observation Assistants for Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, VA. This role provides visual and audible observation of assigned patients under RN direction. Night shifts are 7:00 pm - 7:00 am, with rotating days and weekends.

Prior customer service or patient care experience is preferred; fixed pay rate is $18.36 per hour. Training will be provided. Full-time and part-time positions are available.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent is required.
• Current CPR AED or basic life support (BLS-HCP) certification is required within 30 days of hire, if required at the facility.
• Ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods; lift up to 50 pounds.
• One to two years of previous experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Visually and audibly monitors the assigned patient's condition and behavior at all times.
• Completes observation reports at established interval.
• Takes initiative in compassionately rendering service or responding to needs; interacts hospitably with staff, patients, visitors and coworkers.
• Remains at the bedside of the patient at all times unless relieved by an appropriate staff member.
• Verbally redirects the patient from engaging in at-risk behaviors.
• Seeks help when patient distress or threat is observed and escalates to medical staff.
• Participates in identifying and reporting patient safety issues; keeps environment safe and reports hazards to nurse.
• Assists in calming or reorienting patient during agitation.
• Keeps patient room safe and orderly.
• Accompanies patient during diagnostic testing.
• Immediately summons nursing staff if assistance is needed or patient shows concerning behavior.
• Participates in hand-off of information at shift changes.
