Job summary

Duke Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the Abdominal Transplant Surgery Hospitalist team at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC. The role provides direct patient care for adults, with collaboration from physicians and other health care professionals.

No operating room duties are included. The position emphasizes in-hospital patient management, coordination of care, documentation, and participation in education and quality initiatives.

Qualifications

• PA: Graduate of ARC accredited Physician Assistant Program. Master’s or Doctoral degree strongly preferred.
• NP: Graduate of an accredited MSN or DNP Acute Care / Critical Care Nurse Practitioner program for adults.
• PA: PA-C
• NP: ACNP or AGACNP is REQUIRED.
• PA: Current unrestricted medical license issued by NCMB with authorization to practice as a PA
• NP: Current unrestricted RN license issued by or recognized by the NCBON with authorization to practice as an NP.
• Both: Federal and State DEA with unrestricted Prescriptive Authority
• PA: 1+ years as a Physician Assistant in an inpatient hospitalist or surgical setting is strongly desired.
• NP: Three years minimum as a registered nurse, with minimum of one year experience as an Acute Care NP, preferably in an inpatient hospitalist or surgical setting.
• Equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care to adults in transplant and general surgery units.
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within supervising physician’s scope.
• Document patient progress and coordinate care from admission to discharge.
• Collaborate with consulting services and nursing staff for continuous patient care.
• Assist in educational activities for students, residents and fellows.
• Ensure proper documentation and accurate charges for services.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives for the unit.
