Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking a capable Plant/Operations Manager to oversee backshift production and maintenance across Chico 1 and Chico 2 quarries. You will organize daily operations, coordinate with HR on staffing, and ensure safety, quality, and on-time production targets are met.

You will lead a cross-functional team in a high-paced environment, monitor equipment and processes, and implement preventive maintenance to minimize downtime while adhering to MSHA and safety standards.

Qualifications

At least 5 years managing mid-to-large quarries in high-paced production.
Strong leadership and mentorship abilities, able to motivate and manage teams.
Knowledge of rock mining, MSHA regulations, and quality control processes.
Mechanically oriented with experience maintaining crushers, screens, washers, and conveyors.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
Experience leading financial performance toward targets and metrics.
Ability to work outdoors in all weather and tolerate high noise levels.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams).
High school diploma or GED is required.

Job description

The Role:

This role has an overlapping reporting responsibility to the Plant Managers at P&K Stone’s Chico 1 and Chico 2 Quarries. This position is directly responsible for overseeing, guiding, and directing the backshift production and maintenance efforts between both facilities for a combined 3.8 MTPY. Night shift is from 2 pm to 12 am (midnight).

What You’ll Do:

Promote Safety. Take an active role prioritizing safety for yourself and others to ensure all assigned plants have zero accidents and are in total compliance with all policies and procedures.
Organize and Plan Production. Plan the daily operation scheduling of plant production to ensure optimal utilization of plant and equipment, personnel and inventory requirements, and work procedures regarding stripping, mining, processing, stockpiling, loading and shipping. Responsible for all aspects of site planning and pit development.
Manage Employee Relations. Provide strong leadership, training, team building and supervision to all employees at the plant to support the operational function of the business. Work cross-functionally with HR to recruit new employees, provide merit increases, perform disciplinary actions, and evaluate the performance of employees to develop talent.
Monitor Processes and Materials. Analyze production and quality control to ensure a quality product is received by our customers. Monitor operational reports to ensure best practices in extraction, processing, stockpiling, and re-handling to ensure product remains within target specifications. Implement and monitor a preventive maintenance program to limit work stoppages, downtime, or other disruptions.
Maintain Compliance. Build a strong safety culture to ensure the plant is compliant with safety, operations, and environmental regulations, policies and procedures. Manage the health and safety of employees to continuously improve health & safety performance.
Inspect Equipment and Perform Repairs. Assist and organize the work of employees in the daily inspection and maintenance of the plant to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operations to maximize production and minimize interruptions.

Experience Required:

Required:

At least 5 years of experience managing mid-to-large quarries in high paced production setting.
Must be able to provide strong leadership and mentorship to employees, both direct and indirect reports, to motivate and maintain interpersonal relationships.
Operational Knowledge. Candidates must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of rock mining, MSHA regulations, and quality control systems and processes.
Mechanical Knowledge. Candidate must be mechanically inclined and have experience in maintaining Crushers, Screens, Washers, and Conveyors.
Interpersonal Skills. Must be an excellent motivator and team builder. Must be able to form strong social relationships and effectively communicate with both internal and external audiences.
Must possess knowledge and experience leading financial performance to established targets, meeting or exceeding performance goals.
Working Conditions. Role operates in a quarry environment. Candidate must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noise between 85dba – 105dba.
