Qualifications

  • Two-year technical degree or apprenticeship in a technical field.
  • 3–5 years of proven experience in electrical/electronics, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic fields.
  • Three years of computer experience and PLC programming.
  • Ability to read drawings, schematics and perform precise measurements.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical/electronic equipment.
  • Plans and applies electrical/electronic and mechanical theories and safe operation principles.
  • Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment per safety procedures and OSHA requirements.
  • Advises operators and line mechanics on procedures and safe operation.
  • Maintains maintenance records and performs preventive maintenance.

The Maintenance Technician conducts, maintains, tests and repairs electrical/electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and components. The position applies knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles in determining equipment malfunctions and applies skills in restoring equipment to operation. The maintenance technician provides skilled mechanical and electrical support to all areas of manufacturing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical/electronic equipment, including programmable controls, numeral controls, power supplies, drives, gauges and test equipment.
  • Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical theories and principles, writing specifications, local and national electrical codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of electronic equipment.
  • Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements.
  • Advices operators and line mechanics of operation procedures and requirements for working safely with electrical/electronic and mechanical equipment and components.
  • Informs appropriate management and line mechanics of potential electrical/mechanical problems and inherent dangers involved.
  • Maintains company-required performance and maintenance records for identified equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance functions as directed.
  • Assists maintenance personnel with technical troubleshooting.
  • Assists and trains other maintenance and other technical-level employees.

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Use advanced trades mathematics together with complicated drawings and specifications involving thorough technical skill knowledge and application of basic theory.
  • Considerable judgment required to plan and perform unusual and difficult work where only general methods are available.
  • Must possess basic electrical skills such as checking/replacing fuses, checking/replacing heaters, checking/replacing motors, replacing electrical contractors, repair wiring. These are representative of basic electrical skills required for this position; however, this is not an inclusive list of skills required.
  • Able to make decisions involving considerable initiative and ingenuity.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Two-year technical degree or accredited apprenticeship program or the equivalent in a technical field.
  • Three to five years of proven experience in the electrical/electronics, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic fields.
  • Three years' computer experience/operation and PLC programming.
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Experience and ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • A thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic components and equipment, including the use of special instruments for diagnostic purposes.
Physical Demands:
  • Some heavy lifting and considerable moving of equipment required.
