Job summary

Kindred Hospital Houston Medical Center and Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) seek an LPN to provide nursing care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The role involves administering medications, coordinating with the care team, and supporting patients and families in a hospital setting.

The position emphasizes accurate medication administration, collaboration with physicians, and adherence to the medical plan of care to promote safe recovery for chronically and critically ill patients.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited program for licensed vocational/practical nurses.
• LPN license in good standing.
• BLS Certification required.
• IV Therapy and Blood Certifications preferred.
• ACLS may be required in certain care areas.
• Minimum six months’ prior experience in an acute care setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, provides nursing care within the scope of licensure for assigned patients according to established nursing standards and hospital policies and procedures.
• Administers medications and performs treatments following the five rights of medication administration.
• Consults with and keeps the Registered Nurse informed of activities, symptoms, reactions, and changes in patient condition.
• Provides pain management techniques and educates patient and family regarding pain management.
• Assists with rehabilitation and treatment of patients per the medical plan of care; updates plan of care under RN supervision.
• Assists physicians with examinations, treatments, and procedures as directed by the RN.
• Treats patients and families with respect and dignity; addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and spiritual needs.
• Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves them in the plan of care.
• Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs and communicates with Social Services/Discharge Planner.
• Interprets data about patient status to identify age-specific needs and provide care accordingly.
• Performs all aspects of patient care in a safe environment to minimize errors.
