Job summary

SMS Mill Services, LLC in Portage, IN is seeking a nights-only Shift Supervisor for our NLMK Steel Mill site, with weekend emphasis and some weekday coverage. The role centers on leading a safety‑driven team, coordinating yard movements, and managing production flow to meet customer needs. Strong supervision, Excel skills, and a commitment to safety are essential. This is a full‑time, on‑site position within a dynamic steel services environment.

Qualifications

• Experience leading teams in steel/mill service environments.
• Proven supervisory skills with safety focus.
• Intermediate Excel skills and basic computer literacy.
• Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving mindset.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and tolerate noise/temperature.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe work environment and enforce PPE usage.
• Lead and train a shift team of operational personnel.
• Coordinate yard movements and production flow.
• Hold pre-shift safety meetings and document production.
• Liaise with customers and Site Manager on issues.
• Maintain paperwork and compliance with safety/regulations.
• Support continuous improvement and problem solving.
