Job description

Under general supervision, provides direct patient care to assigned patients.

Education: Associate degree from an accredited School of Nursing required.

Licensures/Certifications: Current registration with the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses as a Registered Nurse.

Healthcare Provider CPR course biennial Experience: None required.

• Interpersonal communication (oral and written) skills required in order to educate and comfort patients and their families, maintain effective contacts with a variety of hospital personnel, and maintain appropriate documentation records.
• Proficiency in developing nursing plan of care, implementing effective nursing care, and evaluating outcome of nursing intervention.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• A. Assessment.
  1. 1. Compiles database and formulates nursing diagnosis.
  2. 2. Utilizes physical assessment and interviewing techniques.
  3. 3. Anticipates need for intervention by other disciplines.
  4. 4. Determines priorities for patient care needs or problems.
  5. 5. Reassesses the patient as indicated by changes in condition and/ or response to treatment(s).
• B. Planning.
  1. 1. Initiates and updates a written nursing plan of care for patients by incorporating scientific and psychosocial principles that support the nursing diagnosis.
  2. 2. Incorporates information obtained from nursing care planning conferences into written nursing plan of care.
  3. 3. Coordinates patient, family, significant other, and health team members in the planning of hospital and post-discharge care.
• C. Implementation.
  1. 1. Performs clinical nursing skills independently.
  2. 2. Administers medications, IV therapy and treatments appropriately and accurately.
  3. 3. Initiates appropriate emergency procedures as necessary.
  4. 4. Appropriately delegates and coordinates the duties of ancillary personnel.
  5. 5. Communicates the patient's status and plan of care through written documentation in the patient's medical record.
  6. 6. Verbally communicates the patient's status to physicians, nurses and other health care professionals.
  7. 7. Communicates in a therapeutic manner with the patient, family and visitors.
  8. 8. Applies teaching/learning principles in education of patient and family.
• D. Patient Care Coordination.
  1. 1. Manages daily patient assignment by appropriately setting priorities.
  2. 2. Delegates responsibility appropriately and monitors the nursing care delivered to patients by ancillary personnel.
  3. 3. Coordinates patient activities with other disciplines.
• E. Teaching and Quality Improvement.
  1. 1. Develops, documents and implements Patient Teaching and Discharge Planning Record.
  2. 2. Participates in established patient, family, staff and/or student education program.
  3. 3. Participates in clinical monitoring at the unit level.
  4. 4. Identifies unit, staff and patient care problems. Takes action or refers problems to appropriate resources when indicated.
• F. Nurse Residency Program (NRP).
  1. 1. Positive engagement and active participation in the NRP sessions
  2. 2. Demonstrates accountability and ownership of assigned program requirements
  3. 3. Successful completion of program

Pay Range $32.18 - $49.46 Final salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications, education, experience and alignment with our organizational needs.
