Job summary

The Iowa Department of Transportation is hiring a 3rd shift Highway Technician Associate in Grimes. The role runs Sunday–Friday, 10:00 PM–6:30 AM with a $1 shift differential on top of the starting wage of $24.48/hour. You may be on call 24/7 during emergencies to keep Iowa roadways safe.

Responsibilities include roadside maintenance, patching, traffic control, snow removal, and equipment servicing. Residency within 45 minutes within five months is required.

Qualifications

• CDLPermit required at hire; endorsements within 5 months.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Pre-employment physical and drug screen are mandatory.
• DOT Clearinghouse check completed.

Responsibilities

• Patch roadways and maintain guardrails, signs, fences, and lighting.
• Assist in traffic control during maintenance activities.
• Operate snow equipment to remove snow, ice, and frost.
• Perform routine maintenance and servicing of DOT equipment and vehicles.
