Job summary

Smithfield Foods' Bakery Meal Plant is seeking a Material Handler to operate powered industrial vehicles, transport raw materials and finished goods, and support quality, productivity, and safety.

The ideal candidate has heavy equipment experience, can work approximately 50 hours per week including nights and weekends, and may need certifications such as forklift or weigh master. Relocation not offered; team-focused environment with strong safety standards is emphasized.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Must be able to work around bakery waste products with possible allergens (e.g., peanuts).
• Ability to read and understand safety rules, maintenance instructions, and procedures in English.
• Must be able to work ~50-hour weeks, including nights and weekends when required.
• Prior experience operating heavy equipment, forklifts, tractors, or similar powered industrial vehicles preferred.
• Ability to obtain and maintain necessary certifications (weigh master, forklift, articulated loader, skid steer, tractor, etc.).
• Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

• Follow SOPs and procedures, inspect and safely operate powered industrial vehicles.
• Operate powered industrial vehicles in all plant areas.
• Regulate blending of materials to meet product specs for moisture and consistency.
• Assist with inventory and housekeeping to maintain plant orderliness.
• Spot trailers for unloading and unload bulk and palletized loads.
• Maintain EMS compliance and report environmental issues as required.
• Perform tasks safely to protect plant assets and reduce risk.
