Job summary

UCLA Housing & Hospitality Services seeks a Facilities Mechanic to support properties managed by UCLA H&HS. You will perform semi-skilled repairs and preventive maintenance across plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry disciplines.

Requirements include 2 years of related experience, knowledge of locks, plans, and tool use; ability to work nights/weekends; and a CA Class C license. Benefits start day one with UC system-wide programs.

Qualifications

• 2 years experience in semi-skilled plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry repairs.
• Knowledge of card key door locks and their operating systems; able to use a portable programmer.
• Knowledge of plumbing fixtures, basic electric theory, wiring, 120/208v, low-voltage systems, and mechanical equipment.
• Ability to read, write, speak English; read and understand policies and rules.
• Ability to read architectural plans and specifications.
• Select and use tools; operate hand and power tools safely.
• Work independently with minimal supervision and prioritize tasks.
• Knowledge of safety standards and safe working practices.
• Interpersonal skills to interact with staff, residents, students, and contractors.
• Experience with Windows, Word, Excel; basic math and area calculations.
• Able to work varying shifts, including nights and weekends; overtime.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in challenging conditions; color vision.
• Ability to drive a truck and/or electrical cart.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to UCLA properties managed by UCLA Housing & Hospitality Services.
• Perform semi-skilled installation, removal, diagnosis, repair, and preventive maintenance of various parts, equipment, and assemblies.
• Work in plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, doors/windows, building hardware, appliances, floors/ceilings, roofing, and basic construction.
• Read, write, and speak English; prepare forms; operate a PC; drive a car or small truck.
