Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Forklift certification required.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Six months of experience as a Material Handler or equivalent required.
  • Proficiency in salvage tracking and reporting.
  • Spotter experience preferred.
  • Safety certifications are preferred.
  • Knowledge of loading techniques for salvage loads.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Job Title: Dock Worker 2 (Night Shift)
Department: Donated Goods Program (DGP)
Reports to: Dock Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary:

Responsible for processing goods and keeping equipment emptied for transportation flow according to GWH policy and ensuring the efficient and cost-effective operation and stewardship of the outlet store and donation center to maximize profitability for mission services funding.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Operates forklift and other assigned equipment in a safe manner in accordance with organizational and safety policies and procedures.

  • Ensures alignment and consistency of all aspects of the outlet store operations.

  • Processes donated goods efficiently and effectively based on GWH’s needs and adapts to changes in commodities processing as assigned.

  • Bales merchandise, identify and demonstrate understanding of items that can be baled together or items that cannot be baled but should be processed separately.

  • Assist with quality control assurance.

  • Maintains accurate bale count with production equivalent to 8-10 bales per 8-hour shift, averaging over 1 bale per hour.

  • As assigned, sort totes and process each tote with a sense of urgency.

  • Ensures that all products are constantly being rotated.

  • Assist in efficient movement of goods on the dock or production areas, and when loading and unloading trucks with the aid of material handling equipment as needed.

  • Fills Outlet boats with the product and rotates on and off the floor per rotation schedule.

  • Sorts product into appropriate salvage, recycling, and trash based on current commodity expectations.

  • Operates assigned material handling equipment in a safe and prudent manner in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas and GWH safety policies and procedures.

  • Maintains processing area in a neat and clean condition.

  • Uses safe work procedures and personal protective equipment as required (i.e., lifting, use of proper equipment, etc.) and report incidents and injuries immediately to a supervisor.

  • Follows the identified compliance standards and GWH guidelines for processing different commodities.

  • Reports equipment, machinery, and other GWH property repairs and/or maintenance to a manager in a timely manner.

  • Completes daily the required paperwork (e.g., forklift pre-use safety inspection, logs, maintenance reports, etc.) in an accurate and timely manner, in accordance with policies and procedures.

  • Establishes and maintains a cooperative, functional work relationship with all associates.

  • Performs other duties as directed by management to support evolving organizational needs.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • A high school diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • GWH Forklift Certified.

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English to understand safety instructions, standard operating procedures, and workplace communications.

  • Six (6) months of experience as a Material Handler, or equivalent work experience required.

  • Proficiency in salvage tracking and reporting.

  • Previous spotter experience is preferred.

  • Safety certifications are preferred.

  • Knowledgeable in all loading techniques for all salvage load types.

  • Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer), and adequate distance to guide the parking and operating of forklift.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Skill in monitoring, operating, watching indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.

  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship for current or future employment. GWH does not offer visa sponsorship for employment purposes.


Key Performance Indicators (KPI):


  • Equipment Provided to Primary Stores

  • Outgoing Salvage Trailers

  • Work Integrity: Follows established procedures and processes donations timely with a sense of urgency.

  • Quality of Work: Attitude, sense of urgency, productivity, individual safety performance, etc.

  • Timely GWH LMS completion (training, etc.)

  • Safety Culture: zero (0) accidents or near misses

  • Attendance: Work schedule as assigned, notify leadership as needed, and no reoccurring issues.


Physical Requirements/Work Environment:


  • Stand, twist, bend, squat, push/pull, and lift up to 40 lbs.

  • Occasionally moves up to 100 lbs.

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods.

  • Requires close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

  • Moderate indoor noise with exposure to outside temperatures.


An indoor work environment with exposure to outside temperatures. The noise level in the normal work environment is, usually, moderate.
