Job summary

West Pharmaceutical Services is seeking a Controls Technician in Grand Rapids, MI to support and maintain the controls infrastructure of automated manufacturing and assembly equipment. You will troubleshoot PLCs, servo motors, sensors, networks, and vision systems to minimize downtime and ensure safety, regulatory, and operational standards.

You will work with Production, Maintenance, Engineering, and Quality teams to own projects, implement upgrades, and update schematics while adhering to 5S

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 2-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, or related field preferred.
• Minimum 2–4 years of experience in controls, automation, or industrial electrical systems in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience supporting automated assembly lines preferred.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and diagnose PLC faults and alarms on manufacturing equipment.
• Troubleshoot servo motor and servo drive issues, including replacement and tuning.
• Train, configure, and calibrate sensors (photoelectric, proximity, pressure, vision triggers).
• Diagnose and resolve machine network communication issues (Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, ProfiNet).
• Support and troubleshoot machine vision systems and inspection validation.
• Assist production during shift operations with downtime events.
• Inspect electrical control panels and verify labeling, tightness, and layout.
• Support safety compliance and adherence to codes and standards.
