Job summary

Highline College is seeking a Campus Security Sergeant to supervise evening security officers and train staff in safety, emergency management, and customer service for the campus community. The role reports to the Director of Public Safety and Emergency Management.

This full-time, non-represented position works nights (10 PM–6 AM) with some weekend hours; salary reflects the King County compensation provision and step progression.

Qualifications

• High School graduation or equivalent.
• Two years of experience in police or campus security.
• Valid unrestricted driver’s license.
• No previous felony convictions.
• Desirable: Associate’s Degree in criminal justice, emergency management, law enforcement, business administration, public administration or a related field.
• Desirable: ICS-300 and IC-400 courses certification.

Responsibilities

• Assign duties, train and supervise the night campus security officers to ensure shifts are customer service focused and meet college needs.
• Write reports covering activity of squad or shift; review and correct reports; maintain training records.
• Evaluate performance to determine training needs; assist in development and conduct of training programs.
• Assist in creating and updating standard operating procedures; manage department communications and alarm systems.
• Investigate disturbances, patrol campus buildings and grounds, issue citations, monitor security.
• Emergency communications: serve as campus contact and use systems to alert the community during incidents.
• Be an effective, courteous team member; communicate clearly under pressure; promote safety and inclusivity.
