Job summary

Hoffer Plastics is seeking a 3rd Shift Automation Engineer to join our South Elgin, IL facility on a regular full-time basis. The role focuses on programming, maintaining, and repairing automated machinery across presses and assembly lines.

The candidate will work with PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens), robotics and vision systems, CAD tools, and general computer systems to ensure safe, efficient production with a night shift premium and full training provided.

Qualifications

Minimum 2 year technical degree in related field.
5 years of experience in related discipline required.
Mechanical comprehension as well as strong understanding of pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical applications and blueprints
Programming knowledge of PLC systems such as Allen Bradley, Siemens, etc.
Robotic experience as well as vision detection systems
Use of Computer Aided Design Software and strong general computer skills

Responsibilities

Repair and maintenance of all automated devices used for runner removal, part handling, separation or packing; all machinery at the press or in Assembly for secondary operations; all auxiliary equipment
Diagnose trouble, disassemble, and determine extent of repairs necessary
Make up repair parts, replace defective components
Perform welding and sheet metal operations involved in repairing equipment
Operate lathe, vertical mill, drill press and grinders as required
Occasionally direct an assigned helper
Maintain work area in neat and orderly manner
Observe safety rules and wear prescribed protective clothing or items
