Job summary

DESC seeks energized Residential Counselors to support residents in Permanent Supportive Housing projects in Seattle. You will assist with daily needs, coordinate with clinical staff, and promote on-site activities while addressing mental health and substance use challenges.

The role requires compassion, reliability, and the ability to interact with residents and staff from diverse backgrounds. Union representation by SEIU 1199NW is provided.

Qualifications

• Basic understanding of homelessness and characteristics of homeless adult population.
• Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to work with clients with a wide range of behaviors.
• Commitment to cooperation and respect for clients across programs.

Responsibilities

• Interact with residents in common areas and milieu.
• Assist clinical staff in coordinating services for residents and liaising with outside providers.
• Engage residents through creative strategies that build trust and confidence.
• Promote on-site activities, therapeutic groups, outings, and meetings.
• Oversee building operations in the absence of other staff.
• Manage lobby functions: check-in/out visitors, answer phones, monitor security.
