Job summary

Dept Behavioral Health/Develop in Virginia seeks a dedicated Psychiatric Care Technician for the 3rd shift at Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute, Danville. The role supports patients through daily living activities and behavioral interventions.

Responsibilities include monitoring patient status, assisting with ADLs, and ensuring safety while managing potential aggression with least restrictive measures. Valid license and EHR familiarity required.

Qualifications

• This position requires basic computer skills as you will be trained to complete documentation in an Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• A valid driver’s license is required and must remain valid throughout employment.
• Ability to follow written and verbal directions.
• Physical and mental ability to participate in patient’s treatment and behavior management including performing manual tasks, walking, sitting, standing, lifting, seeing, hearing, breathing, learning, writing and performing mathematical calculations.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with patients to achieve therapeutic goals through ADLs.
• Attend to patients’ problems and concerns, encourage activities, provide intervention for behavior problems and crisis situations.
• Promote patients’ awareness and coping skills to deal with realities of judicial controls as required.
• Must work with patients who may become verbally and/or physically aggressive and use the least restrictive interventions.
