Job summary

AMPI, a farmer-owned dairy cooperative, operates Paynesville facilities with a focus on cheese production and quality. The Production Manager will oversee daily operations, collaborate with maintenance to meet output goals, and ensure safety, sanitation and policy compliance at the Paynesville plant.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED, 3–5 years of supervisory experience, and a preference for a Bachelor’s or Associate degree in related fields; a valid driver's license is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
• Bachelor’s or Associates degree in food science, manufacturing or similar areas preferred.
• 3-5 years relevant work experience preferred/required.
• 2 years of supervisory experience required.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Report employee safety, food safety and quality issues to the appropriate personnel.
• Lead production priorities, maintain equipment uptime and ensure timely setups.
• Monitor sanitation, labor utilization and process improvements.
• Provide training and develop staff while enforcing policies and procedures.
• Support GMP, safety and food safety programs and review payroll.

Description

AMPI owns six Midwest-based manufacturing plants where 10 percent of the nation’s American-type cheese and processed cheese is produced. The cooperative’s award-winning cheese and powdered dairy products are marketed to foodservice, retail and food ingredient customers. In 2019, the co-op launched its Dinner Bell Creamery brand and accompanying Co-op Crafted promise, highlighting more than 50 years of dairy farm families partnering with skilled cheesemakers.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time:

• All AMPI employees have an obligation to report employee safety, food safety and food quality issues to personnel of authority.
• This position has a heightened food safety and food quality responsibilities.
• Work jointly with maintenance to identify equipment issues, establish day to day operational priorities and improve machine uptime.
• Facilitate production expectations with plant personnel; ensuring that goals are met on a day to day, month to month basis.
• Ensure that production equipment setups are completed in the timeframe required to meet department expectations and efficiencies.
• Monitor production cleanups. Provide analytical input to improve labor utilization and efficiencies during sanitation processes.
• Establish training procedures and processes that provide strategic action plans to improve job knowledge and training.
• Build a strong working relationship with plant personnel, providing leadership, teaching, and effective communication methods, that ensure enforcement of company policies and procedures.
• Will be the liaison for the production floor software which will include addressing system performance issues and training.
• Provide direct support to the Safety Coordinator by assisting with changes and updates to various policies and procedures of the safety program.
• Review and approve department payroll.
• Participate in the annual management review of the Food Safety and Quality system.
• Manages competing demands and changes approach or method to best fit the situation.
• Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner by gathering and analyzing information skillfully. Works well in group problem solving situations and develops alternative solutions.
• Creates a positive team with the ability to build morale and group commitments to goals and objectives.

• Develops realistic action plans, by prioritizing and planning work activities. Plans for additional resources as needed.
