Job summary

OU Health is seeking a Phlebotomist for Inpatient/ED nights (Tuesdays and Wednesdays) at the OU Health CLINICAL PATHOLOGY LAB. The ideal candidate has at least 1 year hospital or 2 years outpatient phlebotomy experience.

Under supervision, you will perform advanced phlebotomy, ensure properly labeled specimens, and enter data into the laboratory system while adhering to safety and HIPAA policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; completion of a phlebotomy training course or on-the-job training.
• Experience: Level 1 requires 1–3 years; Level 2 requires 3–5 years in hospital or outpatient phlebotomy.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) from AHA is required.
• Level 2 requires current phlebotomy certification (ASCP-BOC PBT, PC NHCO, CPT) with valid dates.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine phlebotomy procedures drawing blood and handling samples for lab analysis.
• Ensures properly identified and labeled specimens per procedures.
• Registers patients, orders tests, and verifies billing information.
• Enter patient demographics and test orders into the laboratory computer system.
• Maintains accurate records and complies with safety policies including PPE.
• Completes annual competency assessment and maintains professional development.
