Job summary

Houston Chronicle is seeking a Newspaper Packaging Supervisor to coordinate and lead evening and overnight packaging operations. The role ensures newspapers, inserts, and related materials are prepared for distribution safely, accurately, and on schedule, with hands-on leadership in a fast-paced production environment.

The supervisor will manage staff, schedules, equipment, quality control, safety, and timekeeping, with flexibility for nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required by

Qualifications

• Previous experience supervising newspaper packaging or related production environments.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read production schedules and manage multiple priorities efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily and nightly newspaper packaging and inserting operations to meet deadlines.
• Direct staff operating inserting, stacking, strapping, conveying, and palletizing equipment.
• Coordinate processing of newspapers, inserts, and materials according to production specs.
• Monitor schedules and adjust staffing and workflow to changing priorities.
• Ensure quality, labeling, and packaging meet required standards.
• Maintain safety and oversee equipment setup, operation, and shutdown.
