Job summary

Henry Ford Hospital – Detroit Main Campus is seeking a Histotechnologist (Histology) for a 24-hour midnight shift. The role prepares tissue specimens for microscopic evaluation, stains slides, and maintains detailed slide records.

The candidate must hold a NAACLS-accredited histology program or an equivalent education path and meet experience requirements. Certification by ASCP as histotechnologist is preferred.

Qualifications

• Accredited bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological sciences, medical technology or clinical laboratory science with NAACLS histotechnician/histotechnologist program.
• Bachelor’s + 1 year histopathology clinical/research experience in US/Canada.
• Bachelor’s + HT(ASCP) certification + 6 months histopathology clinical/research experience in US/Canada.
• Bachelor’s + 50-week U.S. military histotechnician training.
• At least 1 year supervised histologic techniques training (preferred).
• ASCP histotechnologist certification (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Following competency testing, may perform processing, testing, and reporting without direct supervision.
• Obtain surgical specimens and orient them on a medium as directed by the physician.
• Cut extremely thin sections in a cryostat and mount on slides.
• Stain slides and coverslip for preservation of tissue specimens.
• Maintain slide files by patient info and biopsy details.

Education

Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological science, medical technology or clinical laboratory science; NAACLS accredited Histotechnician/Histotechnologist program

Bachelor's degree + 1 year histopathology clinical/research experience in US/Canada

Bachelor's degree + HT(ASCP) certification + 6 months histopathology clinical/research experience in US/Canada

Bachelor's degree + 50-week U.S. military histotechnician training

At least 1 year supervised training in clinical laboratory histologic techniques (preferred)
