Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems in Massachusetts seeks a Fiber Optic Specialist to support R&D and production, handling and splicing thousands of fibers for the SPARC fusion machine, and to improve fiber-related manufacturing processes.

The role requires 4+ years in fiber optics, proficiency with attenuation and spectral measurements (OTDR/OSA/OBR), and hands-on lab fiber handling expertise. Night shift, on-site work, with equity and strong benefits.

Qualifications

• 4+ years experience in fiber optics field applications.
• Experience with taking attenuation, insertion loss, and spectral analysis measurements using OTDR, OSA, OBR, power meters, etc.
• Must have experience fiber handling in a lab setting with known standards.

Responsibilities

• Conduct the handling, routing, splicing, testing, and repair of thousands of fibers in the SPARC fusion machine.
• Perform mechanical integration of small assemblies adjacent to fiber work.
• Install wrappings for fibers and enclosures.
• Train other technicians in installation, splicing, routing and measurement procedures.
• Improve safety protocols for laser and fiber optic handling.
• Fulfill manufacturing and R&D fiber needs.
