Job summary

Erlanger Behavioral Health Hospital is seeking an Admissions Counselor for a 7p-7a shift to facilitate admissions, conduct clinical intake assessments, and manage utilization review within a patient‑centered behavioral health setting. The position requires a bachelor’s degree in a social services field, with a master’s degree or RN preferred, and 1+ year of mental/behavioral health experience.

CPR/de‑escalation certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a social services field is required.
• Master’s degree in a social services field or RN preferred.
• One or more years of mental/behavioral health experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Respond to inquiries about the facility within policy timeframes.
• Develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
• Perform benefit eligibility to ensure patient benefits are active at admission and communicate to the business office and patient.
• Collaborate with facility medical and psychiatric personnel to ensure appropriate referrals.
• Coordinate admission and transfer between referral sources and levels of care.
• Maintain knowledge of milieu management.
• Communicate projected admissions to internal representatives.
• Ensure all clinical information from referral sources or patients is received prior to admission.
• Schedule and complete pre-admission assessments; consult with admitting physician and communicate disposition recommendations.
• Prepare and maintain medical record documentation for payor authorization.
• Complete initial pre-authorization for treatment and admission prior to admission.
• Admit the patient to the registration and accounting system; complete forms with the patient.
• Demonstrate a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward customers; address complaints; prioritize patient safety.
• When patient needs are not met, acknowledge and resolve complaints; safety is a top priority.
• Coordinate care for patients not being admitted and arrange follow-up care and referrals.
• Demonstrate urgency related to patient safety and provide excellent customer service.
• Responsible for safety checks and supervision at 15-minute intervals as required.
• Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.
