Job Details

Position: Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS) - NICU

Type: Contract, Remote

Schedule: 8am-5pm, Days

Location: AdventHealth Hospital within CFD Division (100% Remote)

Responsibilities
  • Review medical records for compliance, completeness, and accuracy regarding severity of illness, risk of mortality, and quality.
  • Complete timely record reviews and input data into CDI software to ensure accurate metrics.
  • Identify opportunities for documentation improvement and communicate effectively with physicians and healthcare team members.
  • Educate team members on documentation guidelines and regulations, including Medicare updates.
  • Collaborate with HIM staff to resolve discrepancies and ensure proper coding and DRG assignments.
  • Maintain high physician response rates and meet productivity metrics.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and ongoing education.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of nursing experience, preferably in NICU, with at least 2 years in CDI NICU chart reviews.
  • CCDS, CDIP certification, and understanding of APR-DRG and SOI/ROM drivers.
  • Ability to produce high-quality, impactful queries.
  • BSN or higher in healthcare field with 2 years of CDI experience, or 3+ years recent CDI experience.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and computer skills.
  • Knowledge of pathophysiology, disease processes, and treatments.
  • Experience with clinical documentation reviews, Medicare risk adjustment, coding, billing, and auditing.
