Job summary

Priority One Services is seeking a Veterinary Technician to support daily rounds, health exams, and surveillance for NHP species under supervision of senior staff and facility veterinarians.

The role requires knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal treatment, nursing, and the ability to assist with sedation, anesthesia monitoring, drug administration, and proper record-keeping. Strong communication and documentation skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Level I requires high school diploma, an AA in Veterinary Technology or equivalent, and LAT certification eligibility.
• Level II requires high school diploma, an AA in Veterinary Technology or a BS in biology/animal science, and LATG certification eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Provide care to research animals, performing health observations and reporting issues to veterinarians.
• Document clinical observations, body weight, food consumption, environmental data on forms.
• Maintain accurate records, logs, and project documentation.
• Administer drugs or treatments, including dose calculations and controlled substance records.
• Communicate with staff to ensure high-quality animal care and customer service.
• Coordinate work schedules with researchers and supervisors.
• Restrain and position animals for examination or treatment.
• Monitor and support the sentinel animal program.
• Ensure AAALAC accreditation compliance and animal care practices.
• Assist with experimental planning and logistics as needed.
• Maintain facility cleanliness, sanitation, and equipment sterilization.
• Meet all safety requirements and report potential hazards.
• Maintain knowledge of laws and guidelines affecting animal care at NIH.
