Job summary

Nevada Gold Mines is seeking an Open Pit Geotechnical Engineering Superintendent to lead our internal geotechnical design team and guide projects from scoping through mature mining stages.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Geological Engineering and 10+ years of hands-on geotechnical experience at active open pit mines. Strong design, collaboration, and mentoring skills are essential for success in this dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geological Engineering or related field is required.
• Minimum of 10 years hands-on geotechnical experience at an active open pit mine site is required.
• Experience with rock mass and rock fabric properties and slope design workflows is required.
• Familiarity with Rocscience, Maptek and LeapFrog tools is required; Deswik/Maptek Vulcan preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead open pit geotechnical design projects within the Nevada Gold Mines portfolio.
• Develop geotechnical designs at bench and inter-ramp scales.
• Prepare technical memos and reports.
• Mentor staff on geotechnical engineering principles.
• Coordinate with site geotechnical leads and ensure design SOPs are followed.

Nevada Gold Mines is building an internal geotechnical design team to develop designs for our open pits and waste rock storage facilities. We are looking for Open Pit Geotechnical Engineering Superintendent to lead our internal geotechnical design team.

The successful candidate will assist in developing and guiding projects within the Nevada Gold Mines portfolio at all stages of development from scoping level to active mining through closure.

Responsibilities:

• Data collection and assessment of rock mass and rock fabric properties including logging of drill holes and excavations
• Interpretation of laboratory and field testing of soil and rock materials, rock mass anisotropy and effects on slope performance
• Geotechnical engineering analyses using Rocscience suite of surface stability software programs, Maptek IRC tool, LeapFrog, Deswik, Vulcan, etc.
• Perform slope design compliance
• Develop geotechnical slope designs at the bench, inter-ramp, and overall slope scales
• Preparation of technical memos and/or reports
• Strong written and oral communication skills with various personnel levels
• Develop Open Pit geotechnical engineering design SOPs
• Manage geotechnical design projects across the NGM open pit portfolio and coordinate with open pit geotechnical engineering leads at site
• Mentoring staff on geotechnical engineering principals and techniques

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Geological Engineering or related field required
• Minimum of 10 years hands-on geotechnical experience at an active open pit mine site required
• Hands-on experience with data collection and assessment of rock mass and rock fabric properties required
• Strong understanding of soil and rock soil properties, anisotropy and effects on slope design required
• Strong understanding of soils and rock deformability properties and characteristics required
• Understanding and experience with open pit blasting techniques and controls required
• Strong understanding of slope design workflows at the bench to overall slope scales required
• Strong competence in Rocscience suite of surface stability software programs, Maptek IRC tool, LeapFrog required
• Experience in use of Deswik and/or Maptek Vulcan preferred
• Understanding and experience in interpreting/reviewing numerical model inputs and results required
• Understanding of 3-D geologic model inputs and development, and impacts on slope stability and design required
• Experience with bench scale and inter-ramp scale slope design compliance required
• Demonstrated ability for developing and sustaining short term and long term projects required
• Demonstarted experience in project scheduling, budgeting, and tracking required
• Must be able to work in a team environment required
• Supervisory experience of engineers and technicians required
