Program and Job Description

The Division of Family and Child Health (DFCH) of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is charged with creating and overseeing programs, policies, services, and environments that support physical and socio-emotional health, promote primary and reproductive health services, health equity, social justice, safety, and well-being for NYC families and children. The division includes the Bureau of Maternal Infant and Reproductive Health, the Bureau of Early Intervention, the Office of School Health, and the Bureau of Administration.

Duties Will Include But Not Be Limited To
  • Apply the nursing process to assess women's and families' physical, emotional, social, and environmental needs related to health and life course development.
  • Assist women and families in establishing realistic goals and measurable outcomes; utilize behavioral change approaches such as reflective practice and stages of change.
  • Provide counseling on prenatal and postpartum care, nutrition, parenting, childcare, family planning, health issues, housing, education, and employment.
  • Evaluate progress toward goals and revise care plans as needed.
  • Develop trusting relationships with women and families to promote problem solving.
  • Support women in developing supportive relationships during pregnancy, birth, and childcare.
  • Connect women and families with relevant community resources.
  • Collaborate with other professionals providing services to women and families.
  • Record nursing activities promptly and according to guidelines.
  • Participate in ongoing training and team meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills
  • Organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Current NYS Registered Professional Nurse license and registration.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two years of full-time experience in maternal/child health or related fields, in a public health, community-based, hospital, or home visiting setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook.

Additional Information
