Job summary

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in electro‑optical (EO) and/or IR sensor systems, DoCost/DoS concepts, trade studies, link budgets and margins.
  • Hardware and software system integration, test, verification and validation.
  • Experience communicating and presenting complex topics across organizational levels and customers.
  • Experience with technical team leadership, program staffing, earned value, risk management, subcontract management, and quality controls.
  • Active Secret security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Job Overview

RTX’s Mission Solutions and Payloads business unit in El Segundo, CA is seeking a Deputy Chief Engineer to lead Next Generation GEO OPIR, a space‑based infrared missile‑warning technology development and operations program.

Responsibilities
  • Engineering program execution and technical leadership for advanced infrared (IR) payload sensors.
  • Provide maintenance and operations support for space‑qualified hardware and software.
  • Facilitate communications between external customers, internal Raytheon leadership, and the program’s engineering team.
  • Analyze and forecast program staffing, risk/opportunity management, earned value, IPT coordination, subcontracts management, and anomaly management.
  • Manage program technical baseline through documentation, use of internal and independent reviews, and chairing the Engineering Review Board.
  • Support new business activities, leading technical responses to RFIs, RFPs, and impact assessments for scope change including Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs).
  • Support business technical roadmaps and provide technical mentoring.
  • Support the continuous process improvement efforts of Engineering.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Tenth grade equated Bachelor of Science Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • Experience in electro‑optical (EO) and/or IR sensor systems, Design to Cost / Design to Specification concepts, analysis & trade studies, and link budgets & margins.
  • Experience with hardware and software system integration, test, verification and validation.
  • Experience communicating and presenting complex topics across all organizational levels and customers.
  • Experience with technical team leadership, program staffing, earned value, risk management, subcontract management, and quality controls.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued Secret security clearance required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Practical knowledge of relevant engineering disciplines for EO/IR systems; Systems Engineering, detection and tracking algorithms, Electrical Engineering (power systems, digital systems, firmware, radiation‑tolerant components), Mechanical Engineering (structures, thermal management, dynamics), Optical Engineering, Software Engineering (Structured Analysis, Object‑Oriented coding, AI‑based coding), Reliability, etc.
  • Ability to troubleshoot space hardware & software and make recommendations on solutions.
  • Experience with operational space‑based sensing systems.
  • Proposal development leadership and technical volume leadership.
  • Top Secret Security Clearance (desired).
