Job description

WSYRTV Newschannel 9 the Nexstar ABC television affiliate in Syracuse NY seeks an Executive Producer to help lead our winning news team. The market leader in beautiful Central New York is expanding its operation launching an allnew television streaming platform. The Executive Producer plays a pivotal role in our mission to grow a news audience on all platforms broadcast digital OTT and social.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

• Coach and teach teammates to grow in confidence and capability in areas outlined here
• Use informed news judgment showcasing techniques and news research to lead the team in building newscasts and streams which serve the needs and meet the preferences of our local viewers
• Quickly adjust newscasts and streams to accommodate breaking news and severe weather coverage
• Edit and author strong copy with correct grammar punctuation editorial style and formatting to meet the requirements of each onair digital and social distribution platform
• Ensure that all content produced meets company standards for journalistic integrity timeliness and production quality
• Cooperate and communicate clearly directly and regularly with news & production teammates and other station departments
• Organize and delegate to ensure booking of timely live interview guests for morning programs
• Line produces when necessary

Required & Preferred Capabilities :

• Strong news judgment and high journalistic integrity
• Strong awareness of news and current events
• Ability to meet deadlines prioritize assignments and make sound editorial decisions in realtime
• Excellent communication skills both oral and written
• Fluency in English
• Strong candid knowledge of self & capabilities and display the willingness & ability to take action to learn improve and grow
• Professional savvy and collegial demeanor when interacting with colleagues and members of the public
• Work well under pressure ability to handle breaking news and lastminute changes with aplomb
• Lowtozero call / approach reluctance ability to confidently engage with viewers officials those affected by stories and others to cultivate story leads and information
• Bachelors degree in Journalism Media Creative Writing English or a related field preferred or an equivalent combination of education and workrelated experience required to succeed in the role
• Flexibility to work any shift as coverage needs demand staffing changes

Technical Skills :

• Mastery of AP writing style to edit and author digital social and onair content
• Strong nonlinear video editing skills and familiarity with Adobe Premiere video editing software preferred
• Familiarity with ENPS rundown and story management system preferred
• Knowledge of and confidence with OBS a plus
• Proficiency with computers telephones copiers scanners fax machines and other office equipment
• Valid drivers license required for hire. A clean driving record is required and must be maintained to be able to safely & confidently operate company motor vehicles

Physical Demands & Work Environment :

The Executive News Producer must be able to stand sit reach conduct telephone conversations use electronic mail write letters and memos conduct facetoface discussions with individuals or groups make decisions without supervision make decisions that impact the results of coworkers and occasionally work outdoors with various weather conditions and indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Must be able to lift set up and operate equipment or items weighing up to 25 pounds.

COMPENSATION RANGE $20 $26 per hour wage
