Job description

Job Summary:

Responsible for maintaining NEX grounds in a neat and orderly fashion by using powered landscaping tools or snow removal equipment as needed. Responsible for ensuring grounds are maintained and prepared in accordance with seasonal tasks, to include but not limited to: preparing soli for plants, seeding, pruning, mulching, weeding flower beds, shrubs, trees, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receives daily assignments to maintain grounds, paths, and parking lot according to weather and NEX facility specifications.
  • In appropriate season, prepares soil, plants see or seedlings, remove weeds, maintain lawns, cuts grass and removes fallen leaves from all pathways.
  • May plow and/or shovel snow from pathways as needed to clear doorway entrance, etc.
  • Uses power tools to trim hedges and cut off dead tree limbs where applicable. Conducts litter patrol in assigned areas, removes trash from various receptacles and place in facility designated dump truck.
  • Picks up trash from barrels in assigned areas and keeps assigned non-cultivated areas in a neat and orderly fashion.
  • Notifies management of supplies needed, and prepare requisition accordingly.
  • Performs minor maintenance, lubrication and cleaning to assigned power equipment. Refers more serious problems to management to determine appropriate action to pursue.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Must know how to operate power mower, chain saw, power hedge trimmers, and power leaf removal equipment.

Works under the general supervision of a designated supervisor who provides general instructions for routine duties. Supervisor provides direct supervision and/or specific instructions for special and/or new assignments, and gives specific time frames for completion. Work is checked on a random basis for timeliness and compliance with instructions.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Is frequently required to lift and carry weights up to 45 pounds; performs duties standing and walking for long periods of time. Is required to use a chainsaw in connection with job duties.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must have sufficient strength and manual dexterity to operate power equipment. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Must be able to stand, crouch, and climb to use ladders and perform various types of manual labor. Must be willing and able to work outdoors all year round.

TRAINING REQUIREMENT:

Associate must receive hazardous material (HazMat) training within 90 days of hire per Department of Transportation regulations. Must hold a valid states driver's license and be able to use snowplow blade on pickup truck

Six months experience performing grounds maintenance, including seasonal tasks such as lawn, plant and tree care, snow and trash removal, etc.

Physical requirements

Lifting and carrying weights up to 45 pounds performs duties standing and walking for long periods of time. Is required to use a chainsaw in connection with job duties.
