Newton Patient Access Representative I - 1st Shift

Description

Performs outpatient and inpatient registrations including financial clearance tasks and functions. Collects patient financial liability payments, provides general information to hospital users, patients, families, and physician offices. Ensures that patients meet financial requirements including Medicare medical necessity, payer pre-certifications, and referrals. Provides excellent patient-focused customer service and communicates effectively to service delivery areas to maximize patient flow and customer service.

Shift: Day Shift

Responsibilities include:

  • Greeting patients and entering them into the tracking system; obtaining State-issued photo ID.
  • Identifying and selecting the correct medical record number or creating a new one for new patients.
  • Verifying insurance coverage, obtaining referrals, and maintaining knowledge of insurance requirements.
  • Verifying physician scripts, coding diagnoses and procedures as needed for insurance and Medicare compliance.
  • Collecting payments, posting them, and providing receipts; handling and safeguarding monies.
  • Assisting patients with financial assistance and explaining the No Surprises Act.
  • Obtaining signatures for consents and ensuring documentation is scanned and stored appropriately.
  • Coordinating with clinical teams and providing support across outpatient registration areas.
  • Understanding downtime protocols, managing time effectively, and maintaining accuracy.
  • Participating in educational activities and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; 1+ year experience in hospital or clinic registration.
  • HFMA CRCR or NAHAM CHAA certification within 1 year of hire.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance verification, coding, and customer service skills.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Office environment, manual dexterity, communication skills, ability to lift up to 15 pounds, and work with diverse personalities.
