Job summary
WCVB, Hearst Television’s market-leading ABC affiliate in Boston, seeks a News Producer who excels at creating compelling, memorable content in a fast-paced newsroom. You will shape a clear, creative vision for each newscast and lead in a room with experienced professionals.
The role demands strong editorial judgment, the ability to own breaking news, and a digital-first approach to amplifying stories across web and social platforms while coordinating with the promotions and engineering teams.
Qualifications
- Professional newscast producing experience.
- Proven writing and copy-editing skills for both linear and digital.
- Ability to collaborate with assignment editors in dispatching crews.
- Creative presentation style and ability to showcase all resources and elements.
- Unwavening journalistic integrity and ethical standards.
- Must be available to work holidays, night/weekend/overnight shifts, and be flexible during breaking news.
- Video editing skills a plus.
- Related military experience will be considered.
Responsibilities
- Build memorable newscasts using creative showcasing, concise writing, and skillful storytelling.
- Write compelling news stories in active voice.
- Act quickly and decisively during breaking news, effectively delivering need-to-know information to a broad audience.
- Demonstrate a commanding presence in the control room, clearly communicating to production staff and on-air team.
- Display a digital-first mindset, collaborating with digital editors to amplify engagement across web and social platforms and posting stories and video as often as possible.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with promotions and engineering teams.
- Be an everyday story idea contributor.
- Take part in newsroom projects including news specials, major event coverage, and programming related to station initiatives.
