Job summary

Fox Television Stations in Michigan is seeking a proactive Producer to gather, write and edit news material, and assemble show rundowns for air and online. You will write packages, coordinate with News Managers and reporters, and coordinate live coverage, editorials and special projects with a focus on accuracy and clarity.

The role requires strong newsroom discipline, the ability to work independently, operate broadcast equipment, and deliver compelling local, national and international news

OVERVIEW OF THE COMPANY

Fox TV Stations FOX Television Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. These stations leverage viewer, distributor and advertiser demand for the FOX Network’s national content.

JOB DESCRIPTION

• The producer selects stories, assembles them in a rundown, creates graphics, writes and copy editsthe stories and coordinates with reporters on reporter presentations.
• The producer is alsoresponsible for taking the show into the control room and timing it to include commercial breaks.
• The producer must be enterprising and self-motivated and be able to work independently to developnewscasts or assigned production.
• Requires a thorough understanding of all journalistic standardsand broadcast production techniques used to create visual and compelling on-air and online content.
• Strong writing and communications skills are required.

Gather, write, and edit news material and assemble show rundowns. This includes generating storyideas, writing and/or producing packages for air. Work closely with News Managers, AssignmentDesk, news reporters and other newsroom employees on story conception and development and executionof story.

Participate in editorial meetings, contributing ideas and discussing show content. Producers will also be assigned to produce or oversee special projects, productions, or livecoverage of station-sponsored events.

• Ability to operate various broadcast production equipment and other communication equipment (intercom systems, microphones, newsroom computer system, video screening computers, cellular telephones, laptopcomputers or tablet devices, etc.)

Primary work environment is in the newsroom and in the field. Occasional time spent in the actualstudio. In-house working conditions include studio/control room settings with temperatures rangingfrom 55 degrees (studio) to 75 degrees. Humidity levels range from 10 to 70+ percent relativehumidity. Outside conditions will vary according to Michigan weather.

The producer must be able to write news copy clearly, in broadcast style, for on-air, online, andother digital platforms. Must be able to assemble news material in a logical and organized fashionand present finished stories in a professional and engaging manner for viewers/readers to be ableto comprehend the latest local, national, and international news. Strong writing and producing skills are essential.

Ability to contribute ideas on a daily basis and to recognize what types ofstories would make for interesting and compelling television. The ability to adapt to a fast paced quickly changingenvironment and to react in live situations to cover breaking news, etc. Ability to establish andmaintain harmonious relationships with piers and superiors and to develop contacts outside the building to aid in newsgathering.

Education: Bachelors Degree in journalism or related field required.

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $64,000.00-69,000.00 annually. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
