Job summary

KGAN Fall News Intern is a hands-on, real newsroom internship in Cedar Rapids, IA, offering experience across broadcast and digital platforms. You will help research, write, and produce news stories while working with reporters, anchors, producers, and photographers in a fast-paced environment.

You’ll gain hands-on video shooting, storytelling skills, and exposure to control room operations, with mentorship from seasoned journalists and opportunities to build a professional portfolio.

Qualifications

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, or a recent graduate.
• Be at least a sophomore at an accredited college/university.
• Be eligible to work in the United States.
• Be available to work on-site at KGAN in Cedar Rapids, IA approximately 15 hours per week for 10 weeks.
• Be able to start between August 24th - September 14th.

What You’ll Do

This is a fast-paced, real newsroom—no two days are the same.

• Create & Contribute: Assist in researching, writing, and producing news stories for broadcast and digital platforms

To be considered, candidates must:

• Be at least 18 years of age
• Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, or a recent graduate
• Be at least a sophomore at an accredited college/university
• Be eligible to work in the United States
• Be available to work on-site at KGAN in Cedar Rapids, IA approximately 15 hours per week for 10 weeks
• Be able to start between August 24th - September 14th
• Have reliable transportation (housing/relocation is not provided)
• Be passionate about local news, storytelling, and community impact
• Thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
