News Editor job at The Baltimore Sun. Baltimore, MD.

The Baltimore Sun, an award-winning news organization, seeks experienced editors with strong news judgment and excellent word skills to assist in expanding its audience in print and online.

These editors will be responsible for editing local copy for clarity and grammar, posting local and syndicated copy to our website and curating content in print and online. These roles will be essential to The Sun’s transition to a new print content management system — a process that’s launching right now. This position may include supervisory responsibilities, including overseeing staff, overseeing editorial workflows, and supporting newsroom operations.

Essential Functions

  • Edits daily staff content for clarity, grammar, style, and overall content quality to ensure alignment with editorial standards.
  • Curates content using our new print content management system for various sections of the print and eNewspaper editions.
  • Coordinates the design and production for parts of our print and eNewspaper products.
  • Works with Sun editors on coverage strategies for upcoming news events and projects for print.
  • Edits and posts content from syndicated sources for online and print publication.
  • Curates content on The Sun's website and app.
  • Works shifts that include nights and/or weekends.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Proven experience in editing news content, preferably in a newsroom environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong editorial judgment and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of print design and production.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of SEO and digital strategies
  • Proven ability to work quickly and accurately using a Web-based content management system
  • Prior managerial or supervisory experience is a plus

Salary Range: $50,000 - $75,000

Individual compensation may vary from the target range based on several factors such as experience, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations.
