Job description

New York Sales Manager, Player‑Coach

Location: New York City

Reports to: Vice President of National Sales & Professional Development

Scope: New York City DOE, NYC‑based charter and private school networks, plus all New York State counties outside of the five boroughs.

Salary Range: $110-115K

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced sales leader to own and lead our New York market, including New York City DOE, NYC‑area charter and private school networks, and all New York State counties outside of NYC.

This is a player‑coach role responsible for driving revenue growth, directly managing priority accounts and opportunities, and coaching a small team of company representatives and independent partners. Player‑coach roles combine direct selling responsibility with leadership and coaching support for a team.

This role is fully dedicated to New York and is expected to spend approximately 60 to 70 percent of time on personal selling and 30 to 40 percent on coaching and leadership. The role carries both an individual quota and a rolled‑up team number, with direct selling emphasis in Brooklyn and Staten Island while serving as the senior sales presence across the broader New York market.

Company & Product Portfolio

Perfection Learning is a leading provider of K‑12 instructional solutions, offering print and digital programs across core curriculum, supplemental, intervention, and advanced coursework. In New York, this role supports sales and growth across a diverse portfolio that includes:

  • Perfection Learning supplemental science, math, and ELA, including Regents titles.
  • AMSCO AP® Social Studies and ELA CED‑aligned coursebooks.
  • W. W. Norton high school and AP‑aligned literature, writing, and humanities titles (NYC only).
  • Wiley AP® STEM and CTE coursebooks.
  • Measuring Up standards‑based instruction, ELL, and Foundations.
  • Aligned digital platforms, assessments, and professional development services.

This role is responsible for representing and positioning the full Perfection Learning portfolio to meet the instructional and operational needs of New York districts and schools.

Key Responsibilities
Market Ownership
  • Own all sales outcomes for New York City DOE, NYC‑area charter and private school networks, and non‑NYC counties across New York State.
  • Personally drive renewals, expansions, and new business in Brooklyn and Staten Island, while supporting strategic growth across the broader state.
  • Serve as the primary senior sales presence for key NYC and statewide decision‑makers and influencers.
  • Navigate NYC’s unique adoption, pilot, and purchasing cycles while effectively managing sales motions across the rest of the state.
Player‑Coach Leadership
  • Coach, support, and develop company sales representatives covering NYC and New York State.
  • Align and support independent sales partners to ensure consistent execution, messaging, and accountability.
  • Provide clear direction, field‑based coaching, performance feedback, and ongoing development.
  • Lead pipeline and forecast reviews while modeling strong territory planning, CRM discipline, and customer‑facing execution.
Revenue & Strategy
  • Carry and achieve an individual quota tied to personally owned business, while helping deliver the rolled‑up team number through coaching and strategic deal support.
  • Develop and execute annual territory plans tailored to NYC and non‑NYC New York markets.
  • Forecast accurately and communicate risks and opportunities early.
Cross‑Functional Coordination
  • Partner with Professional Development, Marketing, and Customer Experience teams to support successful implementations and growth across New York.
  • Ensure smooth handoffs from sale to implementation to renewal.
Operational Excellence
  • Maintain accurate CRM data and pipeline visibility.
  • Establish disciplined rhythms for reporting, communication, and follow‑up.
  • Identify and resolve issues proactively before they escalate.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in K‑12 education sales or senior leadership roles within NYC DOE or NYC charter organizations, with demonstrated knowledge of district decision‑making, procurement, and adoption pathways.
  • Prior experience leading, influencing, coaching, or coordinating teams through formal sales management or district/organizational leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated success driving adoption, implementation, or growth of instructional materials, curriculum, or edtech solutions.
  • Strong understanding of NYC DOE structure, charter networks, and key statewide stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage complexity, ambiguity, and high expectations in a high‑stakes education environment.
  • Exceptional relationship‑building, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Success in the First 90 Days Looks Like
  • Established credibility with internal teams and New York customers.
  • Clear visibility into pipeline, renewals, and risk areas across NYC and the broader state.
  • Active ownership of priority selling activity in Brooklyn and Staten Island.
  • Aligned and focused company reps and independent partners.
  • Stabilized execution with minimal escalation to senior leadership.
