Job summary

Lawyers for Justice in New York seeks a licensed attorney for a New York Associate Attorney role focused on wage-and-hour and complex civil litigation. You will support state and federal plaintiff-side matters, draft pleadings, manage discovery, assist with depositions, and communicate with clients under senior attorneys’ guidance.

The ideal candidate has NY admission (or pending), 1–3 years of civil litigation experience, and willingness to travel.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice law in New York or pending NY bar admission.
• 1–3 years of civil litigation experience, including discovery, oral advocacy, and court appearances.
• Experience with class actions, complex litigation, wage-hour matters is a plus.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, and discovery responses.
• Assist with deposition preparation and attendance; prepare for and appear at hearings.
• Communicate with clients under the guidance of senior attorneys.
• Support representation in wage-and-hour, class, and representative actions.

Description

The Associate Attorney will support and assist in the representation of clients in state and federal plaintiff's-side wage-and-hour, class, and representative action litigation against regional, national, and Fortune 500 companies. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, conducting legal research; drafting pleadings, motions, and discovery responses; assisting with deposition preparation and attendance; preparing for and appearing at court hearings; and communicating with clients under the guidance of senior attorneys. Our caseload is growing and the ideal candidate for this position is a licensed attorney who is organized, professional, eager to learn, and committed to achieving strong outcomes for our clients.

Qualifications

• Candidates must be either (a) licensed to practice law in New York (b) already licensed in another U.S. jurisdiction and pending admission to the New York Bar.
• The ideal candidate will be licensed to practice law in New York and have 1-3 years of experience in civil litigation, including experience with discovery in the civil litigation context, oral advocacy and appearing in Court, motion practice and taking/defending depositions.
• Prior experience with class actions, complex litigation, and wage and hour litigation is a plus.
• Candidates must be able to travel on occasion.
