Job summary

Upside Innovations is seeking a New Product Development Engineer to drive concept-to-production for new and improved aluminum ramps, steps, canopies, and related products.

This role requires a bachelor’s degree, at least 5 years of product development experience, proficiency in 3D CAD (Solid Edge preferred), and strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills to collaborate across engineering, marketing, production and sales.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Researches, designs, and evaluates equipment to meet market and customer requirements.

• Writes upfront performance requirements for product development projects.
• Evaluates design feasibility regarding appearance, safety, function, manufacturability, cost.
• Performs calculations and FEA to verify structural integrity and load capacity.
• Collaborates with engineering, marketing, production, and sales teams.
• Investigates product characteristics such as safety, market appeal, producibility.
• Participates in new product planning or market research.
• Develops best practices to improve new product design processes.
• Uses Project Management methodologies to manage work.

New Product Development Engineer

Upside Innovations is a manufacturer of aluminum ramps, steps, canopies, OSHA steps, covered walkways, and custom access products. We have been growing tremendously since Upside started in 2009 and we continue to add new positions to our team. We are now part of SixAxis Manufacturing Technologies which is fueling additional growth in our business.

The New Product Development Engineer will be responsible for conception through production implementation of design and development of new products, product improvements and value engineering to existing production lines by using technology and engineer principles.

Responsibilities

• Researches, designs, and evaluates equipment and systems to meet market and customer requirements


• Participates in overall product strategy and development for Upside Innovations


• Leads research that tests or analyzes the feasibility, design, operation, or performance of equipment, components, or systems


• Writes upfront performance requirements for product development or engineering projects that will be used to evaluate the relative benefits of design ideas


• Evaluates feasibility of design ideas, based on factors such as appearance, safety, function, manufacturability, ease of installation, transportation cost, and budget


• Perform calculations and FEA to verify structural integrity, member sizing, and load capacity using the Aluminum Design Manual (ADM) and ASCE 7


• Confers with engineering, marketing, production, sales departments, or with customers, to establish and evaluate design concepts for manufactured products


• Investigates product characteristics such as the product's safety and handling qualities, its market appeal, how efficiently it can be produced, etc.


• Participates in new product planning or market research, including studying the potential need for new products


• Develops best practices, routines, and innovative solutions to improve new product design process


• Uses Project Management methodologies to manage work


• Applies engineering best practices to all work assignments

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering


• Minimum 5 years of product development/design experience


• Demonstrable history of successful new product introductions


• Experience using 3D CAD software, Solid Edge preferred


• Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills


• Ability to work independently and part of a team
