JOB SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision of a registered nurse, participates in the nursing process by delivering care to patients and their families. Duties and responsibilities include direct care activities required in daily nursing practice on the assigned unit. The nurse will utilize this time to learn the institution and nursing practice. It is expected that a nurse in this role successfully meets all requirements of the Departmental Orientation. Utilizes the institution's care delivery and professional practice models as the frame of reference for practicing as a professional nurse. Participates in activities to develop own practice, and to support group practice goals at the unit level. Is accountable to patient, family and team members for care provided and to the nurse manager for totality of work performance. Is accountable to hold to the Service Standards and to the Nursing Mission, Vision and Values.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing is required. If graduate is completing the initial examination: testing must be completed within 90 days of the date that the graduate completed the school nursing program. Basic computer skills are required. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Meets licensing requirements to practice registered nursing in the State of Maryland. Must meet all applicable federal, state, and local professional requirements. Certification in Basic Life Support required.
The employee in this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on the age of the patients served. He/she must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status, to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the necessary care as described in the department's policies and procedures.
