Job summary

General Matter is seeking an early-career Software Engineer to build software that directly enables advanced enrichment technology and the systems used to develop, test, and operate it.

As a Software Engineer at General Matter, you’ll work alongside electrical, mechanical, test, and other teams to develop software for real-world technical systems, including data acquisition, hardware interfaces, automation, and internal tooling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field and start date readiness.
• Experience programming in Python, C++, C, Rust, Go, or Java through coursework, internships, or projects.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, debugging, testing, and version control.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and collaborative skills.
• Interest in hands-on work with software that interfaces with physical systems and hardware.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain software supporting engineering, test, and operational systems.
• Build tools that interface with hardware, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems.
• Develop software to automate testing, experiments, data collection, analysis, and workflows.
• Collaborate with software, electrical, mechanical, controls, and test engineers to deliver reliable solutions.
• Translate engineering requirements into robust software, and identify root causes across software and hardware.
• Develop tests, monitoring, and tooling to improve system reliability and performance.
• Participate in design/code reviews, testing, and documentation to ensure quality.
• Take ownership of projects from concept through deployment and iteration.
• Learn new technologies quickly as project needs evolve and contribute across disciplines.
