Registered Nurse (RN) Resident - Stroke, Med/Surg & Telemetry

South Pointe Hospital's 6 Medical Unit is a fast-paced unit that cares for patients with a variety of medical conditions and diseases, such pneumonia, congestive heart failure, infectious disease, asthma, and COPD exacerbation, and is very experienced in ventilator management for chronic ventilator patients. This unit strongly believes in the importance of mentoring caregivers to be the best they can be in a family-oriented and positive environment and providing opportunities to serve as a unit resource, become NICHE certified, perform studies and be active in shared governance.

A caregiver in this position works nights, 7:00PM - 7:30AM.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  1. Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs.
  2. Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.
  3. Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability).
  4. Respond to data indicating risk to patients' health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk.
  5. Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
  6. Document in patients' medical records.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  1. Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  2. Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  3. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  4. New graduate RN OR less than one year of RN work experience.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  1. Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN).

Physical Requirements:

  1. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  2. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  3. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  4. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  5. Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
  6. Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
