Akron General’s 7100 Unit is a high acuity cardiac Telemetry and Medical/Surgical Unit. This fast-paced team cares for patients who require extensive ADL assistance and complex medical attention. As Resident RN, you will find a welcoming and hands-on environment where caregivers encourage education, mutual support and teamwork. This unit will provide you with positive team interactions, preceptorship and opportunities for additional training, certification and career growth.

A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00PM – 7:30AM.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs.
  • Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach, with a focus on IV push, cardiac medications and chest pain testing and monitoring.
  • Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability).
  • Initiate and/or maintain interventions to assure continuity of safe/effective care for patients.
  • Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk.
  • Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
  • Document in patients’ medical records.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of Professional Nursing
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • New graduate RN OR less than one year of RN work experience

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
