Job description

Unboarded (RN) – Progressive Care (Step down) – Defiance Hospital

The Unboarded Graduate has graduated from an accredited nursing program but has not yet passed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). They are responsible for delivering exceptional nursing care to patients by:

1. Utilizing strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status
2. Providing care to patients with medical and surgical diagnoses
3. Implementing clinical nursing interventions
4. Having a highly diverse medical skillset
5. Developing and performing patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomes
6. Ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment

Essential Functions:

1. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team
2. Collect vital signs, administer IV medications, understand charting, and assess patient condition
3. Perform at a higher patient-to-nurse ratio
4. Evaluate, update, and revise plans of care to facilitate achievement of planned and expected outcomes
5. Serve as a patient advocate in collaboration with spiritual care, palliative care, and ethics
6. Administer medications safely, following State of Practice and organizational policies
7. Perform other duties as assigned

Education:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred, not required)

Certifications:

• Recent graduate of an accredited RN program awaiting NCLEX; must obtain RN Licensure within 90 days of hire
• Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (preferred, not required)
