Unit Specializes in: Our 20-bed surgical intensive care unit cares for patients with complex surgical diagnoses, including post-cardiac catheterization, open heart surgery, and other procedures requiring continuous monitoring or lifesaving interventions. Our nurses are trained to care for patients with balloon-pumps and Impella devices. RNs utilize hypothermic protocols post-arrest and attend American Association of Critical-Care Nurses orientation. The Detroit Medical Center (DMC) Registered Nurse (RN) is part of the Patient Care Services Team, responsible for nursing care delivery. The RN manages patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through independent judgment, communication, and collaboration with the healthcare team, including ancillary and support staff. The RN role encompasses leadership, partnership, teaching, supervision, and collaboration.
