Job summary

HNTB in Indianapolis, IN is seeking an Estimator who will perform quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for bids on major infrastructure projects. You will work under supervision, leveraging design drawings and specifications to project labor, material, and equipment costs.

The role involves gathering cost data from subcontractors and vendors, using estimating software, and building cost models to support independent estimates and change management.

Qualifications

• Degree required: Engineering/Architecture/Construction Management or related field.
• In lieu of education, 4 years relevant experience in cost estimating.
• Reading and interpreting design drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Analyze bid and design documents to perform quantity takeoffs for labor, equipment, and material costs.
• Estimate labor, material and equipment costs based on drawings and specs.
• Collect cost data from subcontractors, vendors, and functional reps.
• Gather and apply industry cost data/publications for estimates.
• Use estimating software to develop cost estimates with guidance from senior estimators.
• Create cost models for various estimating elements and support change management.

This opportunity entails being under close supervision, performing routine estimating assignments requiring knowledge of basic estimating principles. Accurately projecting the cost of upcoming projects. Responsible for conceptual, definitive, man-hour, and equipment factored total installed cost estimates.Duties may also include preparing economic cost studies, cash flows, and contingency analyses.

What You’ll Do:

• Analyzes bid and design documents to perform quantity takeoffs to support labor, equipment, and material cost development.
• Estimates labor, material and equipment costs of construction based on design drawings and specifications.
• Collects construction cost data from functional representatives, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Gathers and utilizes industry data/publications for estimating purposes.
• Uses estimating software to support the development of cost estimates with guidance from lead/senior estimators.
• Creates cost models for cost estimating elements.
• Supports the preparation of independent cost estimates as part of change management, claims analysis, and price negotiations.

What You’ll Need:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or related field, or
• In lieu of education, 4 years relevant experience with the development of cost estimates

• College coursework or equivalent technical coursework in design drawings and specifications reading, quantity take offs and cost estimating fundamentals
