Our Philadelphia office is seeking Summer 2025 New Grad Electrical Engineers for our Traction Power group.

This opportunity entails being responsible for assisting in the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned Traction Power projects. This position performs research, drawing development, calculations, design and delivery in partnership with the project team. Develops conceptual plans and specifications to support the construction of various Traction Power systems and perform calculations to support that work. This position also will require the use of current drawing software and technical tools such as AutoCAD. As a member of HNTB’s Traction Power team you will contribute to project delivery for a diverse range of projects including AC and DC traction power substation design in addition to power distribution and delivery for traction power systems.

What You'll Do:

  • Completes assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.

  • Supports the preparation and modification of project reports, plans, designs, and calculations.

  • Assists in the preparation of project quantity and cost estimates.

  • Assists engineering teams with organization and administrative support of design files.

  • Supports engineering teams with various tasks and duties including but not limited to research, data collection, field investigations, development, and design of projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

What You'll Bring:

  • Prepare reports, plans and designs for projects.

  • Prepare project quantity and engineer's estimates.

  • Work on a design team developing AC and DC power distribution systems and AC and DC traction power substations, including 600/750V DC rail transit traction power substations and 25/12kV AC rail transit traction power substations.

  • Support the design of auxiliary power and switchgear systems in a transit environment.

  • Work with team to perform traction power system analysis and simulations including load flow, short-circuit availability, motor-starting, and protective relay coordination studies.

  • Generate traction power project specifications and design drawings with the support of senior staff.

  • Support design services including shop drawing reviews and site inspections during construction of traction power projects.

  • Participate in site visits at substations and along railroad tracks.

  • Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.

What We Prefer:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Knowledgeable in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD

  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and National Electric Safety Code (NESC)

  • Knowledge of how to perform electrical calculations and knowledge of electrical power concepts.

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
