This opportunity entails being responsible for assisting in the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans, and specifications for assigned projects. This position performs research, development, calculations, design, and delivery in partnership with the project team. Applies engineering techniques, procedures, and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity. Leverages technical knowledge to assist in the execution and evaluation of project designs. Develops conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to support the project execution using current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients.
Signals, Communications, and Train Control Systems:
Signal systems provide control that allows for switching and safe movement of railway traffic. Communications systems support safe train operations, provide information to the traveling public, and support security. HNTB is a leader in these fields within the United States in all facets, from initial planning, through technical design, project management, and construction support.
The HNTB Signals and Communications team is actively involved in providing services for transportation agencies across the country. This type of work involves the design of fiber optic cable systems, high-speed data networks, radio systems, control systems, video surveillance, access control, Voice over IP (VoIP), passenger information systems, laying out block designs for railways based on train performance criteria and operational needs, development of circuits to control signal lighting, switch machines, and other wayside devices for mainline operation and within rail yards. HNTB is also involved in designing microprocessor and relay-based interlockings, as well as the design of highway grade crossing warning systems in accordance with state and federal regulations.
The position is based out of our Philadelphia, Pennsylvania office.
