HNTB in Boston, MA is seeking New Grad Engineers for Summer 2027 in our Traffic department. Newly graduated engineers will analyze, design, and optimize transportation systems with a multidisciplinary team to improve traffic flow and safety.

You will work with mid and senior traffic engineers on project design, calculations, and reports, as well as field investigations and data collection. A strong foundation in engineering principles and software familiarity are valued.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and basic understanding of transportation design.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, reporting, and communication of technical concepts.
  • Familiarity with design software such as MicroStation or AutoCAD preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Completes assigned work within the schedule and hours provided.
  • Supports preparation and modification of project reports, plans, designs, and calculations.
  • Assists in preparation of project quantity and cost estimates.
  • Assists engineering teams with organization and administrative support of design files.
  • Supports engineering teams with research, data collection, field investigations, and design tasks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

This opportunity entails being responsible for assisting in the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. This position performs research, development, calculations, design and delivery in partnership with the project team. Applies engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity. Leverages technical knowledge to assist in the execution and evaluation of project designs. Develops conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to support the project execution using current drawing and technical tools, programs and software. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB's clients.

Our Boston, MA office is seeking New Grad Engineers interested in Transportation for Summer 2027 in our Traffic department.

As an Entry-Level engineer within our Traffic department, you will play a vital role in analyzing, designing, and optimizing transportation systems. You will work closely with mid and senior traffic engineers and a multidisciplinary team to develop innovative solutions that enhance traffic flow, promote safety, and improve the overall performance of transportation networks.

What You’ll Do
  • Completes assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.
  • Supports the preparation and modification of project reports, plans, designs, and calculations.
  • Assists in the preparation of project quantity and cost estimates.
  • Assists engineering teams with organization and administrative support of design files.
  • Supports engineering teams with various tasks and duties including but not limited to research, data collection, field investigations, development, and design of projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
What You’ll Bring
  • Exhibits an understanding of engineering principles relevant to the discipline.
  • Attains knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, and familiarity with MicroStation and/or AutoCad or other software.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to convey technical concepts to team members and stakeholders.
What We Prefer
  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
  • Knowledgeable in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
  • Strong interest in transportation and infrastructure.
  • Internship or co-op experience in transportation or related field is desirable.

Salary

The approximate pay range for Massachusetts is $79,688.15 - $119,532.23. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position based on all selected locations within the state at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual's qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
