Job summary

ERM is hiring a Paleontological Field Technician to provide on-site compliance support during surveys for a gas pipeline project in Nevada. The role works with project managers and resources leads to conduct surveying, respond to discoveries, and keep the project compliant and on schedule.

This full-time position (40-50 hours/week) runs for 6 months with a possibility of extension. Candidates should have field judgment, safety awareness, and the ability to work in active construction

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in geology, paleontology, anthropology, biology, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of professional paleontological survey and construction monitoring experience in Arizona and New Mexico.
  • Familiarity with BLM paleontology guidelines and permits; other states considered.

Responsibilities

  • Survey predefined study areas for paleontological resources following survey plans.
  • Identify and document paleontological resources in various rocks and deposits.
  • Coordinate with paleontology leads, field directors, archaeologists, and project managers.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable permits and terms and conditions.
  • Complete daily survey notes, logs, and photographic documentation.
  • Collect GPS data as instructed and assist with summaries and discoveries.
